"Well, there will be a physical," Sparrow replied. "And they will probably do it at the same time as the magic test, because we've found that doing the magic test alone makes people uncomfortable... not that it is an uncomfortable process! It is just that... well, Will calls it 'a non-participation exam', which is a big word. The physical is fine, unless you haven't taken all your shots. Then Will gives you shots, and while that is going on, Mary will be there, and that is the magic test..."
At that moment Sparrow pushed open the doors to the Diamond. The main floor had a hospital-like atmosphere, and even the same scent. The floors were white tile, and walls were a washed-out blue. There was a waiting room, but Sparrow didn't even slow down. She ran past the reception desk, where a man simply raised and eyebrow with a smile. She then eventually came to an examination room, where a man with pointed ears and a long blonde ponytail was waiting. There, next to him, was a thin woman who looked like she could've been in for an exam herself. She was rather pale, and made to look paler by the dark hair which fell around her face. She wore a simple pink sundress, and had a white bow in her hair.
"Hello, I am Dr. Morah," the man responded. "This is my associate, Mary Feranne. We will be conducting a physical today. If you will sit on the examination table, we can begin"

Azaneth pushed the door to the council room open. Inside it, there was a long mahogany table, surrounded by empty seats. There was a single figure in the room, and Azeneth began to get nervous.
Roxanne was one of the most outgoing and well-known councilmembers. She typically stayed in the Mesa training newbies or assigning missions. She was accepted here, and as such never really felt the need to hide who she was. Roxanne was a skinwalker, a shape-shifter who is limited to animal and people. Normally, her hair was a forest green, her skin was pale and almost blue-ish, her fingers were webbed, and her ears were pointed. However, years of hiding in modern society before joining the Underground gave her one bad habit: When she gets stressed, she changes to look human. Today, she was very, very stressed.
Roxanne turned to the two newcomers. "I would say sit down, but we don't have time. All of our normal X-ies" (Specialized units for dealing with situations on the grid) "Are out dealing with either the necromancer, the giant rebellion, or the Fae village that was taken hostage..."
"Wow, I only knew about one of those things. I am losing my touch," Azeneth said. Roxanne was not amused.
"We think this is a diversion. We believe these incidents were created by the group that was kidnapping newbies," Roxanne said. "Problem is, we don't know who they are or what they want. That is where you come in."
"Stealth missions aren't my forte."
"You won't be going in stealth. In fact, that is why you guys were chosen. We needed people who aren't well known outside of the Mesa, or else this plan will fail."
"What is the plan?"
"You are going to be getting yourselves kidnapped.

"Oh, fun," Cinder said as he sat down and handed Dr. Morah his papers. "And I don't think my powers are magic; ...I dunno, they just don't feel magic-y to me. Like when I use them, it feels like something that's part of me, not some supernatural power."

"We know that these people are targeting newbies before they get to the Underground recruitment centers," Roxanne explained. "Specifically, they are gathered around the Reserve areas, since the Reserve doesn't have a record of all their members, and their areas are open to anyone in need. Basically, we need you two to hang around the Reserve areas and try to get kidnapped. When you do, don't fight back, just get as much information as you can. When you are ready to break out..."
"Attack everything that moves until it doesn't?" Azeneth asked. Roxanne sighed.
"You will be given rings that hold a telepathic connection to Serenity. She will send Rune to teleport to you and pull you out."
"Or I could..."
"No," Roxanne stated firmly. "We've considered letting the new recruit come with you, since we figure these people have been targeting him for a while if they managed to capture the rest of his group. The other thing we have considered is... letting Takara come with you as bait. However, that is up to you."
Azeneth grinned. "Takara, eh? That should be fun..."
With Cinder:
Dr. Morah chuckled. "For those who can tap into magic, magic is as much a part of us as our beating heart. Anyway, let's get on with the examination"
With that, the Doctor checked Cinder's blood pressure, temperature, etc. He kept making comments about Cinder being perfectly healthy, while Mary stared at him from a corner. She eyed him up and down, but always paused to look directing into his eyes. At the end of the examination, Cinder turned to Mary. "So, did you see anything out of the ordinary?"
Mary looked to Will. "At some point in this man's life, he has come into contact with a Phoenix which has left him physically altered. Given that he hasn't said anything about meeting a phoenix, it is probably a phoenix which has taken human form..."
"In other words, he ran into Aiden," Will said.
Mary shrugged. "No way to tell for sure, but likely that is the case. Regardless, he can be classified as Faction 2 or 4, since a magical encounter changed his physical make-up. The choice is his."
Will turned to Cinder. "Do you wish to be with the black-ops faction, or the regular mutant faction?"

"So do I have to choose now, or can I have some time to think about it?" Cinder asked. "Black Ops sounds exciting and all, but I'm not sure if I want that much excitement."
